The Institute for Behavior and Health is a non-profit research and policy organization that identifies and promotes powerful new ideas to reduce illegal drug use and to improve youth substance use prevention and treatment outcomes. IBH was founded by Robert L. DuPont, MD, who previously served as first Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and second White House Drug Chief. IBH is working to reframe the way the nation thinks about youth substance use, setting a clear public health standard of One Choice: no use of any alcohol, nicotine, cannabis/THC, or other drugs by youth under age 21 for reasons of health. The One Choice message is rooted in our understanding of the unique vulnerability of the developing adolescent brain to substance use and in recognizing addiction as a pediatric-onset disorder. IBH has analyzed nationally representative data to show that for youth, all substance use is connected and that a growing percentage of young people are already making One Choice not to use any substances. Join the One Choice Community, a grassroots network of prevention professionals and coalitions working to amplify youth voices in prevention and normalize substance non-use for youth health.
